Just to see and try again I installed 107 on the same server where it failed earlier. After setup, went to upload image and same thing, no thumbs, no image anywhere, just the filename.

But! this time, I logged out and re-logged in and then, all the images were there. Apparently, in the previous failed installs, I just had to logout and login.

Success was just a logout away.
