I am not sure if this is the correct place to put this but it seems like it.

I am looking to use zenphoto with Amazon s3. I would like to store all my images there. That way I can move webhosts and not have to worry about the images or have to worry about taking up too much space on my current webhost and have better reliability.

I believe that this should be possible. There is something similar for wordpress:

but it doesn't really do what I want.

I would be willing to help create this but would need lots of help and also willing to help test it.

Thanks for the FAQ.

I have read that and believe it should still be possible. I know that menalto gallery is working on something similar for their gallery.

S3 should have the commands available to do it and I understand that parts would be slower but browsing of the gallery should be fast once the thumbnails get created.

I'd like to help test this out if it ever gets running.

I use S3 on few zenphoto galleries - but it's 1.1.2 version and within few days I am going to rewrite it to be compatible with 1.1.7 and later.
But first I have to find out how can I make it a zenphoto plugin, because my current S3 use is based on strong code modifications.
And it's limited only to be a copy of /cache/ folder - so all original files remain on my regular host, and only scaled, and resized images are served from S3.

Once I do it, I will share my code here.

Would it be possible to have some kind of option of where the original file are located. Also maybe someone would want the cache to be stored on the regular and the original files from S3. I would like both from S3. I could also try and help you with that.

that makes use of Amazon S3 as a place to store photos (or other types of storage)

Do you think it would be possible to add something like this to zenphoto?
I would be willing to help out with this but would need a lot of guidance if I was doing the coding as I have not done much with php. I would also be able to help test it out.

I personally have no interesst in Amazon S3 (also don't know anything about that) therefore I will not invest any time in that.

Anyway, generally any third party plugin for Zenphoto is welcome. So if you really need this that should not keep you from trying to make a plugin for this but please don't expect us to help. Our resources are too limited.
