Hi, forgive me if I have posted in the wrong area.
A friend requested I help him fix a problem that just popped up on his ZenPhoto site. The original creator of the site is nowhere to be found.

The error reads: Error, Cache directory not writeable. Make sure /cache permissions are correct.
Can someone please explain to me what I need to do to fix this? I have never used ZenPhoto but do have experience with other CMS's (Joomla, XCart, Typo3).

This means that Zenphoto is not able to create files and/or folders within the folder named cache. Zenphoto must be able to do this to create the resized copies of the images used for the image and thumbnail displays.

You will need to use an FTP client or such to change the folder permissions of the cache folder. Changing them to allow everyone read, write, and execute priviledges will work, but more strict permissions may also work depending on how the server is configured. Sometimes you can set it so only the file owner has these the write priviledges. If that works, it is better security.

You might also want to check the version of Zenphoto the site is running. It appears not to be very recent.

Thank you - the perms read 0755. What should I set them to to give the admin permissions to read/write/execute?

I will have to look into the version - can I just install the new version over this one?

I guess you will need 0777--that is too bad, since it is not as secure. Be sure also to apply it to subfolders and files.

Your theme appears to not to be one of the standard distributed themes. In addition, I suspect that you have a very old version of Zenphoto, so a lot has changed. I would guess that there will need to be updates to the theme, so it is unlikely to just load and go. Best to install on a test site to get the kinks worked out.
