I had a similar issue and as im not really a coder I restructured my site slightly.

Rather than have lots of albums I now have subalbums. Have a look at www.jameskilby.net

If this is not what your looking for maybe someone else can help

zpFocus has an option in the theme options to use a jump select instead of the jquery dropdown for the gallery list.

Hello,

I am using Zenphoto 1.3.1.1 and gallery theme zpFocus13. Also have enabled the "dropdown" type menu. I am trying to figure out how I can create an instruction for an album to link to a URL outside of Zenphoto. For now I've used HTML in the description, but this takes to much time "too many clicks" for the user to reach the new URL. I have tried to find the answers in the tutorial, but I just can't get it to work. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

The menu_manager plugin lets you define custom menu items and even outside links (but of course not tied to an album).

I don't know if zpfocus supports this plugin and how it can be implemented though.
