It would be a big help to me if there were official plug-ins and support for PDF files so they could be uploaded, have a thumbnail generated, and be opened online by visitors to my site.

It is not possible to add support directly with Zenphoto. Your server must have either a pdf extension or use the Imagick libary that has support for Zenphoto. The GDlibary that is hte default and mostly provide on servers does not have PDF capability at all (it's a quite proprietary format after all).

Of course there is possibility for some sort of support. Of course because PDF format is proprietary and requires special "interpreter" to view there may be limitations and/or restrictions to what Zenphoto can do.

Anyway, for this (and all feature requests) we have a ticket system. Posts here are useful, but do not get tracked, so may easily get forgotten.

In this case, though, no ticket will be needed (at least initially.) Tonight's nightly build will incorporate support for .pdf and .pps files in the class-textobject plugin.

The limit (and it may be significant) is that viewing uses the Google Docs viewers. These are hosted on the Google website and require a logged in user to be used. And as well, your site must be "public" as the Google site will request the file from it in order to hand it to the viewer.
