I hope these questions are not to stupid, but I'm currently evaluating several gallery systems and I can't see straight anymore.

Is it possible with Zen to
rate pictures quickly, for example by clicking on stars, and use these ratings to quickly filter/sort picture (whole database, just one gallery/album)

leave the pictures, which are currently stored in folder structure where they are currently and "just" have Zen to add metadata, create thumbnails and of course browse pictures?

1a) There is an official plugin for rating we also use on our own site (which is besides the forum and bugtracker Zenphoto only). The theme used of course needs to support it.

1b) It is possible to set the sorting by rating on the backend. It is not possible to sort on the front end for a visitor though.

2. Yes and no. Zenphoto will create thumbnails from the full images. It is however not able to add meta data to images via the backend. You will have to do that before uploading.

A lot is possible with Zenphoto but some things will require some work in theming and/or custom coding. I suggest to look around the user guide and visit the themes section.
