I'm probably just too dumb, but: when I create a new sub-album and set it to not published, it immediately appears in my menu created with printAlbumMenu.
Is there some super-secret way to keep ZP from doing this?

You are most certainly still logged in with the appropiate rights so you of course see it. Just to note: This is standard behaviour for Zenphoto since forever and applies to all items.

No problem. That feature can be confusing at times..;-) That is why there is a plugin called "show_not_logged-in" to disable that bebaviour btw.
