I am upgrading an old installation and have been installing each of the updates successfully up to 1.4.3.5. The link on the older versions archive page for the 1.4.4 zip package is not valid. Is it possible to correct the link or provide a direct download link? I hesitate to skip to 1.4.4.1.

It is fixed now. But you really do not need to install the intermediate support releases. You could simply install the last in the sequence, in this case 1.4.4.8.

Just to confirm for future reference, when upgrading I can install latest version within same major version sequence? e.g. last in 1.4.4.x, 1.4.3.x, etc. (I do understand that I can't upgrade from 1.4.3 to 1.4.5, e.g.)

Yes, you do understand correctly. We do believe that you can typically directly upgrade to the current release. However, we have not tested all the permutations of that. What we KNOW works is release to release upgrades.
