Since 1.4.5.1 upgrade, a problem with viewer_size_image has appeared. After repeating the upgrade process several times, the error still appears. Otherwise, the upgrade is great and went smoothly. (Thanks!)

Rather than showing the smallest size, an X that cannot be selected is printed.

We have ruled out these:

1. zp-extensions/viewer_size_image.php
    replaced it with original, even though did not edit it

2. plugin settings format error
    used defaults used at the demo admin backend at opencms

3. custom theme
    same error appears in all themes

Is anyone else experiencing this error?

Any feedback on its cause and advice for a solution would be greatly appreciated.

Suggest you clear caches out. I just tried this plugin and get no issues (default theme.)
