Hi guys,
I run a site that handle tons of photo, we are talking 30gb of photo (medium quality). I've using zenphoto since 2009 and is been great in the front but since day one the admin is really slow.
I have a main album call "Birthdays" and inside there 1000+, so when I tried to load that album listing it takes forever. Im running 1.3.
Are you guys knows if this is better en 1.4+?
Thanks in advanced and Merry Xmas!
We constantly look at performance and make it as good as possible for the features you use. I certainly recommend upgrading if for no other reason than all the security issues fixed since 1.3.
There are options you can select to enhance the loading of the album and image pages. Hard to remember when they were introduced, so they may not be available in 1.3.
Often the problem you describe is due to the selection of the album thumbnail. You can choose to not show thumbnails and that issue is eliminated.
On the image pages you can choose how many images to show per page and speed up its loading.
Other than these, you might want to re-consider your organization. 1000 pictures has to be daunting to any site visitor. Maybe sub categories?
If you have no pix in the "Birthday" folder then placing an un-published image in the folder for the thumbnail would probably speed things up considerably. With no images in the folder the album page collects all the images from the sub-folders for the thumbnail selector.
I have added a section to our general "problems" article:
