Very odd. I wonder if any has any ideas.

I wanted to experiment with the idea of nesting my top level albums under a single album.

I created a new album called 'test' and dragged an album called LVP into it.

I then (I believe) dragged LVP out of 'test' and deleted test.
When I looked carefully both LVP and test were gone!

I have restored my database from the previous day but LVP is still not there. How odd!

What can have happened. Any suggestions welcome. It would be great to et LVP back. But the most important thing is that it does not happen again.

You probably did not save after moving the album "LVP" so the sort order was not updated when you deleted "test". So to ZP "LPV" was still a subalbum of "test".

And restoring the database would not restore LPV since it must be present on the file system.
