I've contacted Alessandro Morandi, author of wordpress plugin ZenphotoPress. He graciously agreed to let me try to revive the plugin. I've committed new version today. Take a look, perhaps it will work for you the same way it works for me right now.
It is compatible with Zenphoto 1.4.10, and I will take a look at the 1.4.11 shortly, although it's possible there is no need to change anything.

No problem, the sub forums are legacy in this old forum and if it would be possible to merge we would have done already. This forum software also does not allow moving posts. (I personally don't pay atention what is posted in which forum at all).

I saw this announcement some time ago and was happy someone would take care about the plugin. However it does not solve the main issue of not showing thumbnails but just exclamation marks.
