I don't know about that but the data size of your images is unnecessary big. 400kb to 4MB is absolutly unnecessary, even with my 6000 kbit/s its slow....

@acrylian: This comes as a big surprise. I thought since Zenphoto caches its images first, the actual size of the image on disk is irrelevant for browsing speed. I sometimes upload large images so that people can download and print. If what you say is true, I definitely plan on reducing the size of uploaded images in future.

As I understand it, simpleviewer in flash mode cannot create cache images, so it pulls the original image, which makes it slow.

Simpleviewer does not use the Zenphoto cache. It fetches the image directly form the disk and does its own thing.

jayray999: i am not sure about lightbox and highslide themes, but I do not see any reason why they could not use the cache.
