Okay, I started over again. Install as below.
Ran setup for each install. the file "zp-config.php.example" DID NOT CHANGE NAME.
Each "0.jpg" image was uploaded using Upload from within the install.
Went to "mytravels.mydomain.com" and no albums/gallery shows (not quite sure the difference).
mytravels.mydomain.com > installed zenphoto
mytravels.mydomain.com/album1 > installed zenphoto
mytravels.mydomain.com/album1/albums/pic/0.jpg
mytravels.mydomain.com/album2 > installed zenphoto
mytravels.mydomain.com/album2/albums/pic/0.jpg
mytravels.mydomain.com/album3 > installed zenphoto
mytravels.mydomain.com/album3/albums/pic/0.jpg
mytravels.mydomain.com/album4 > installed zenphoto
mytravels.mydomain.com/album4/albums/pic/0.jpg
Ok macalter, we simply don't have enough information to help you with your problem.
Can we see your site so we can diagnose this better? Thanks.
Also, why do you need the "sub galleries" with multiple installations of Zenphoto as you've set up? Zenphoto now supports sub-albums, so you can have many directories deep of albums and images within the same gallery... what do you need that you're installing the super-gallery for?
Reading the instructions for Super Gallery that allows for separate themes, admin & I assume access. I want them all under the main domain mytravels.mydomain.com but want to give some people privileges on one but not the other. And, want to be able to set separate themes for each, if and when the selection expands.
I followed and installed Zenphoto. Also, it seemed that was what I was told when asking here on the forum.
I'd give the site info but don't want to post the password here. Does this forum include email?

This is my install from the root"mytravels.mydomain.com"
.htaccess (I set a password for accessing the site)

It is hard to interpret what you have posted. If the items under, say 1977sanfrancisco, are the folders within 1977sanfrancisco then the structure is correct.
Have your run setup on each of these installs? Does zenphoto work if you visit each of the galleries? mytravels.mydomain.com/1977sanfrancisco, ... etc.?
There is really not much we can do to help you if we can't view the site. Anyway, not sure why it needs to be protected if it is not working.
