Does ZenPhoto allow a Web site's registered users (i.e. many different people each having their own photo files) to upload their own photo files to the Web site? I'm developing such a Web site for sharing photos, but I'm not sure if ZenPhoto provides for multiple users being able to do their own uploading? Or is only the site admin allowed to upload images? Thanks very much.

The next official version will have multiuser support (it's already in the nightly build), but users need to be set up by the master admin before they can upload/do anything.

If you comb the forum you will find a user created a custom version of ZP that allowed users to register and upload their own photos. I'd say it was October or November of 2007.

web01, we have found the link to the post I was talking about. The problem is, ZenPhoto has went through a LOT of development since this time. Keep that in mind... http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=1786&replies=7

Thanks to both of you for your help. aitf311 - Thanks for locating the link to that multi-user version. I'll try that out. Since multi-user capability is more important than other features for me right now, I'll take a chance on that older version and see how it works. acrylian - When might the next official version (with the multi-user upload) be released? Thanks again for your help.

On the main page of ADMIN there is a link to check to see if there is an update. Also, there is a roadmap here http://www.zenphoto.org/trac/roadmap

"Our current target for the next release is at the end of this month."

So in the next release user galleries will be part of the package?

Thanks

You can preview what will be there by downloading and trying the nightly build: http://www.zenphoto.org/files/nightly/. I am not sure exactly what you mean by "user galleries". There are two features that might apply. An implementation for "super galleries" which are galleries whose thumbnails point to other galleries. And multiple administrators where you can assign an administrator to an one of the gallery albums and give him the rights to administer it.

Any progress on the member issue?
I really need the function at my Zenphoto site http://www.t-shirt.name/

To describe what I need:

  • Any one can register for a "Upload"-account
  • When registered they can upload pictures (if not banned or dissaproved)
  • New pictures needs to be approved (if the member isn't wellknown or has several pictures approved since before)

Is that the feature you are working on?

Looked on the roadmap etc but couldn't see any info about it...

That's a fairly complex system you're describing, not something we're prepared to integrate into zenphoto at this time due to the philosophy of the project. The multi-user aspect sbillard was talking about was a simple but useful system of multiple manually-entered users with different rights.

We want to keep Zenphoto as simple as possible, and its primary purpose is to be a simple gallery solution for a person or small group with their own web site. Registration, user management, user banning or disapproving, photo approval, etc. are all features of complex multi-user galleries (or even social photo sites), and would introduce more security issues, debugging issues, social issues, user rights issues, etc. etc.

If you're looking for something that requires all those features, then perhaps a larger gallery system is better suited for your needs, such as Gallery2 or Coppermine.

We can also add that feature to the feature poll, and if enough people express interest then we can consider it more formally.

Thanks for your fast answer!

I can live without disapproving/approving images.
A public "register" form would be great and I think it wouldn't be too hard with the right knowledge about Zenphoto.
I will try to fix that myself but my coding skills are not the best and I haven't worked on other peoples code/systems before so it might be hard...

It would be great if you would like to add the feature to the poll!

PS: I've tried Gallery2 before but I think it's too big/complex. I'll check out Coppermine later but it seems pretty similar to Gallery2
