How do I get my site to display more then 17 pic's per page?

That should just be a theming change. Please check out the Theming Tutorial in our User Guide. (That link is currently down, otherwise I would provide a link.)

There are plenty of posts on these forums about changing the number of images per page. You can do a search to find the information for which you're looking.

The user guide link is working again btw.
