I wonder if we need a new feature or if there's just a method I'm not thinking of to do this:

I'm looking to create users who will be able to upload photos, perhaps into predefined albums (if that means I can start to do this today without waiting for a feature addition), and "tag" them with the data they have about them -- date, location, credit....and that's all. Maybe if they could define this information as they upload photos, or after they are uploaded, only the photos that were just added are displayed, and then...that's all.

I'm not sure if I'm even being clear - let me know if more clarification is needed.

And by the way...GREAT job on zenphoto so far. Out of a good 15 image managers I have installed and tested, this is the only one that meets the requirements of my application, which aren't even too uncommon. Thanks for making this available!

Have you looked at the admin users? You can create users, assign them albums and priviledges. So in your case, you would give them upload and edit priviledges and assign them an album. Not sure exactly what you mean by "only the photos that were just added are displayed", but sounds like reseting the view all albums priviledge that is new to the nightly builds.

Example: person A wants to add his photos to the collection. The albums are already there, he just wants to add in those particular categories. I want for this user to just be able to upload photos and provide info about them, and then that's it -- so when I say "only the photos that were just added are displayed", that is, after a photo upload, the only pictures he has rights to edit are the ones he just uploaded. I don't want them to be able to edit and/or delete all the other photos that weren't his.

Also, this might be more of a bug - if someone has rights to a album, they can create a new sub-album...but then they can't access it.

Is there a changelog for the nightlies so I can see if it's worth installing?

Rights are by album, not image. So if a user has rights to an album he can view, edit, etc. any image in the album (or its subalbums.)

I am not seeing the problem with users creating a subalbum but not being able to access it. Can you described in more detail what is happening?

Neither can I -- that was the report from the outside user but I couldn't replicate it.

I'm worried because I'm going to be dealing with people who are already afraid of computers as it is <g> and they're going to get confused and ruin other photos trying to find the ones they just uploaded.

Is there a way that the script could take the data with the photo being uploaded? That is, along with the upload form, the user could enter the description and such of the photo? That way I can give them upload rights but no edit rights?

I'd like to preserve the multiple upload function for more experienced people, such as myself, but I think for my application, this solution is more important. How much modification would be involved to do this?

There in no way for the script to collect the data. But you can have your users insert the data into the images IPTC/EXIF fields. Then it will be propegated to the database.

Again, I'm dealing with people who probably don't even know what JPEG means, much less IPTC/EXIF. Back to the drawing board, I guess :-(

Seems that you need to do some education then. If your clients want to use it correctly they will need to learn a few general things at least. That will be inevitable...:-)

I will prepare a screencast for image uploading; also, the new moving features in the nightlies will allow me to have people upload into a personal gallery, finalize the details, and then I can move stuff over to the main gallery. It's not a perfect solution but it's tolerable, I think, and allows me to use this great product!
