This is a post in reference to:
http://www.zenphoto.org/support/topic.php?id=69

I decided to put tsservos instructions in a new post to make it easier to find. I appended more detailed instructions on how to activate PHP5 in Dreamhost.

  1. in the .htaccess change RewriteBase:
for instance, if you have Zenphoto installed in
    "http://www.domain.com/zenphoto/"
    and your RewriteBase is /zenphoto
    remove the "/zenphoto"

  2. In the Dreamhost control panel, set the domain to run PHP 5:
Go to the Domains > Manage Domains area
Under the Web Hosting Column click Edit
Select the PHP Version 5 option

  3. Run setup.php; database tables should be created smoothly.

  4. In the .htaccess set RewriteBase back to correct path:
    /zenphoto

Hopefully this should work. Good Luck!

ok, its all working now. what a hassle. Thanks RogerUsh for your instructions, they really helped. The problem was that I uploaded the files to my webserver, then renamed the folder. After I changed to PHP5, and experimented for a while, I changed it back, without thinking, and it all worked fine..

Thanks for your help,
bs84

My thanks tsservos for figuring out the installation issue and to RogerUsh for posting the steps.

With step 1, I have had to remove the entire RewriteBase line before I could access and run the gallery's setup script. Steps 2-4 worked just fine. :-)

bs84, are you saying that your gallery is working in PHP4 (running as CGI)? Mine broke straight away when I switched from PHP5 back to PHP4 (running as CGI).

Cheers,
marsbar

I got it to work on Dreamhost another way -- first I installed version 0.8.2, then upgraded to 1.0.1b, and it worked!

Nice gallery, bhhenry--do you have it working in PHP4 or 5 at DreamHost?

OK so I thought I followed these directions. (I have dreamhost) I have smoothly used Gallery and Album... but really like the look of this (especially here http://www.lisavollrath.com/zp/)

I seem to be getting tripped up on steps 2 and 3 in the set-up page...
anyone want to do this part for me? get the thing set up so I can start loading files??

this is the message I keep getting
MySQL Error: Could not connect to the database server

the mySQL won't let me make a zenphoto database, so not sure what I am supposed to be doing there to make it work.

So please email me if you can help
thanks

Please let me know if you find an answer!

Ok... I've finally got Zen Photo to install onto Dreamhost

http://www.tonguengroove.co.uk/zenphoto/

I can see the admin panel if I type in the exact link for it. But the actually gallery and upload features don't seem to work at all. I can upload imges, but can't see them in admin. (I can see them via FTP though)

I've tried all kinds of changes to .htaccess but I'm getting something totally wrong. Deleteing RewriteBase is the only way I can get close...

Help!!!!
