I want to assign a specific tag in addition to all existing tags to all images of an album and in its subalbums. How can I do that?

The admin backend of zenphoto allows you to define new tags and to add any tag to any image.

I am not sure we are talking about the same thing here.
I want to click on album "X", then click "Assign tag Y to all objects in this album" and then have all 2000 images in that album and its sub-albums assigned that tag w/o going to each one of those images individually and assigning that tag.

No, we were not talking about the same thing.

No way to do that in zenphoto. But Adobe Bridge and probably other photo image software will let you do so.
