The title of the gallery shifts from the top when a vertically oriented photo is the thumbnail to the bottom when a horizontally oriented photo is displayed. Is there a way to keep the title of the album at the top?

A CSS issue. Try to make the div surrounding the thumb and text wider. The title is simply to wide for the element.

Would shortening the title also work?

EDIT: no. It won't. I'll have to mess around with the CSS file now won't I?

Another question - I get a 500 internal error when trying to view the gallery now. The gallery shows in the admin section...deep breath

The site is here - it's the album titled "Architecture": www.chinamash.com

Yes, you probably have to mess around with the css file for that theme personality. It has not been changed for a long time I think.

You problem is modrewrite / htaccess related. Either your server does not support it or you did not upload the .htaccess file. Setup actually should report about that.

OK - I've uploaded it several times now into the directory that zen photo is in but it isn't showing. It appears as if it's not there but if I don't choose the overwrite function it says that it's already there. Argh

EDIT: it's now showing in the directory after I uploaded it again but I'm having problems creating albums for the gallery. I can create a gallery in the admin section and upload a photo to it but when trying to view it in the gallery I still get the 500 internal error.

Another EDIT: I ran setup and got this:

"Warning!

Perhaps there was a problem with the upload. You should check the following files:
.htaccess
themes/default/index.php"

Now what?

So, what does Setup say about modrewrite? Your server has to support that, if not you have to disable the modrewrite option on the options.

It didn't say anything about modrewrite.

What I just did since my last reply though was reinstall zen photo. Now everything is green:

MySQL setup in zp-config.php
MySQL version 5.0.75
Connect to the database chinamas_zenphoto
MySQL SQL mode
MySQL access rights
MySQL show tables found: zp_administrators, zp_admintoalbum, zp_albums, zp_captcha, zp_comments, zp_images, zp_obj_to_tag, zp_options, zp_tags
MySQL field collations
Zenphoto core files
.htaccess file (RewriteEngine is ON)
.htaccess RewriteBase is /
albums folder
cache folder
locale folders

So everything seems to be alright now. I think the problem occurred last time when I modified the default theme index.php file. Would modifying that file cause that kind of a problem?

I also just found out that my host and server does support mod rewrite. If that helps.

I think everything is sorted out. After the reinstall all seems well - one thing is bugging me though - the album titles are still at the bottom of the thumbnails. Is there a way to get them at the top? I've had a look at the CSS file for that theme and it's a bit daunting.

Last thing (I swear) - is it possible to crop a certain part of the image and make the cropped portion the thumbnail?

EDIT: It indeed is (found how). Cool.
