how would I create a dynamic album from a search that looks for all pictures added in 2008 ?
would I have to add a tag or can I facilitate the date on images in a nifty query ?

Setting the fields to search to "date" only on the search options and then search for the year should work.

Actually, that will probably not work--there is no means to create a search that performs a range test on a field. But there is a data search capability. It was created for the archive search and currently selects items based on the month. Possibly it could be extended to allow start and end dates to be supplied.
