I am wondering if it would be possible for the first menu item under pages to redirect for example to the first sub item or a selected sub item of a parent category. Reason being is I am currently set up with drop down item and the name of the menu is not really valid as a link per say... It could even be a way if the name of the first item would not return to a page, making only the sub items pages but not the parent. See here for example.

Where the Page item Links does not really have any meaning but the sub items will have some meaning to them.

Not without modifying or making a custom function. I assume this is the printPageMenu() function? You could also use the printSubpageExcerpt function to print further links or a list of the sub pages.

Aditionally you might want to try the new menu management plugin in the current nightly.
