Hi all,
I just installed zenphoto on a server here for work and everyone loves it so far. The only issue we have is no photo can be searched until someone explicitly visits the folder that contains that photo, to force zenphoto to index it.

We have a few thousand JPG files already exposed to zenphoto through a symlink to a remote folder, and am worried that new photos won't get picked up unless someone goes in and clicks on every new folder.

Is there a feature or plugin that can automatically discover all new photos in the album and index them?

Visit the albums from the administrative pages. Or try this http://www.zenphoto.org/news/cacheImages . Be aware that "discovering" all the images at once may over-burden your server.

Thanks for the quick response! What do you mean by visit them in the administrative pages?

Thanks all for your help. So is my understanding of zenphoto correct in that photos won't be able to be searched for until someone visits the folder that contains those photos (which in turn forces zenphoto to add them to the database?)

Almost right ;-) The images are cached in the cache folder and the image info (title, description, metadata, etc.) is stored in the database. Once cached the images will load normal.

Like @sbillard said, you can also use the cacheImages plugin.

Just to add images are of course also discovered if you visit the admin pages.
