Is it possible to create a custom search page to run alongside the existing one? I want one which displays results differently to the other but have both available to users.

    Well, "possible" is actually everything... But generally no, there is only one search page supported, search results are search results. How should be determined what to display how? What exactly do you need this for?

    i'm trying to create a 'photo comparison' page where 2 images from different albums can be viewed side by side. I thought the easiest way to do this would be a new page with 2 iframes pointing at a custom search box which in turn displayed the results differently to suit the layout of this page.

    You could modify the search page to display content differntly if passing a specific GET paramenter for example.
