Thank you. I read "If you are skipping any significant number of releases, check the support forum for upgrade issues" but didn't find anything specifically on the forum so thought I would post. Apparently there aren't any known issues at this point then. If it doesn't work, can you downgrade through the upgrade process, or is there a good chance you would have to install from scratch?
Well each site is different. If you plainly use official things only, the chance is good it all will still work. But even official things change.
1.4.5.1 is already from 2013, you can't expect to jump over 13 years of updates without any issue. Please consider to upgrade more frequently in the future (we don't release that many versions per year…) then you have less issues with this.
The best is to upgrade in steps, review the release posts about changes and check the logs for any issues, fix them and then try the next step. If it is an important live site best is to use a staging site first.

As noted on our upgrade page recommended is by step as we don't test that specifially. Try each and check the log for deprecation warnings.
I did successfully upgrade such installs directly but there is no guarantee, especcially if you use any custom or third party things.
