Blank page after mysql detais entered

every time I enter the details of mysql and click save I get a balnk page and can do nothing. I have found that deleting the 2 files in zp-data I can get back into setup again only to get a blank page again. I am new to mysql so any help greatly received
Using V1.2.9 on www.streamline.net server, MySQL client version: 5.0.77 Protocol version: 10 phpMyAdmin - 2.11.9.5

    Please check your server CGI logs. Blank pages are typically caused by script errors so we need to know what the error was.

    If I were to speculate it would be that Setup is failing to write to the files in the folder or not able to read them once written.

    The CGI Bin is empty and I can only fing 2 log files on the server 1st one its last entry was 11/2008 and the second i have copied the lst part sorry was not sure how much to send.

    What I was refering to is the CGI error log. I do not know where it might be on your server. Perhaps not in the CGI bin folder.

    I did not find any useful information in your above log.

    I have just had a responce from my provider stating that they only have Logfiles, there is no CGI error log, can you think of anything else to get this working, I have installed wordpress yesterday in another directory and the mysql details were correct so it is not that and I still get a blank page after submitting the mysql details.

    If we don't have the exact error, everything would just be guesswork. You should talk with your provider to find out how to get that error.

    I've just installed zenphoto 1.2.9 on a Windows server (with Apache 2.2.15, PHP 5.2.13, and MySQL 5.1.45). When I initially tried to use setup.php, a couple of warnings and some errors related to my MySQL configuration were displayed. Upon correcting the errors, setup.php gave produced only a blank page. No PHP errors were displayed or logged, although PHP should have been configured to do both.

    One of the warnings had to do with Multi-Byte String (mbstring) extension, which was not installed (mbstring is not installed by default during PHP setup on Windows). I initially paid little attention to the warning, because 1) it was only a warning not an error, and 2) I didn't think that I was using a language that required multibyte strings.

    When I repeated the zenphoto setup after changing my PHP configuration to include the mbstring extension, everything worked beautifully and I'm now very happily running zenphoto.

    This information may help others who have encountered the "blank page" problem during setup.

    I too am having problems getting a connection to the MySQL server in setup. I'm assuming the "MySQL Host" setting is looking for the server name, as leaving this set to the default "localhost" returns "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10061)" error. When I paste in the full server name provided by host which is in the format "domainname.hostingmysql.com" then press save, I get the blank page mentioned in the previous post.
    As in the previous post, I am also getting a Multi-Byte (mbstring) warning in setup. I have no idea how to change my PHP configuration to include the mbstring extension as the previous member did to correct this problem. Could someone shed some light? Thanks.

    I just contacted my hosting company. It's not possible to access the CGI error logs. They also don't offer Linux servers, so it will have to stay on Windows (re, the post 4 above).

    Just to clarify in the setup page. The "MySql Host" field should not be left to the default "localhost", but should be the path indicated by what my hosting control panel is calling "Server Name". Is this correct?

    Any other suggestions as to how get past this 10061 error?

    I am tempted to suggest to get another host.. Access to the error log of your server should be standard, on all shared host I know here (Germany) it is...

    Yes, the MySQL host is the server name. Localhost does not work on too many hosts. Make sure that really all info is correct.

    Note that we officially only support and test Apache servers. But since some users use IIS servers successfully hopefully someone will have an idea.

    Your service provider should be able to tell you what the MySQL Host field should be set to. Only they will know for sure.
