Yes. But if you just upload the files over what you already have on the server you may have files that do not belong. That is why we recommend you delete the the old install as stated above.
In your case, the plugin architecture is new in the development build. Files that are placed in the plugins folder are loaded by zenphoto under some circumstances. If these files are not conformant to the plugin architecture, they may cause problems (as did the file in your case.) It is not clear what these files were. Probably left over form older zenphoto releases. Clearly they had never been used as they caused errors just by being loaded.

but the slide show is a big mess the page goes very wide and u can not even get to the buttons controlling the slide show. when it starts it is like" catch me if u can"
which file / files controlling the looks or the adjustment of the slide show so i can have it in the middle of the page and the buttons can be controled ???
plugins/slideshow.php, the last function there controlls the css. It works well in Firefox and Safari. You probably use IE which is a problematic browser as always. If you fix this so that it still works in Firefox, Safari etc, too. that would be welcome,
