I've been building my galleries in a subfolder because I was planning on having pages that were independent of zenphoto, but with zenpage I think I can do everything I want, so I'm planning on moving the ZenPhoto files from a subfolder to the root of my site. Are there are any dangers to be aware of when shifting stuff like that?

Zenphoto runs generally fine directly in the root.

No dangers, but be sure to run setup after everything has been moved so that the rewrite base is updated to reflect the new location.

www.sbillard.org is setup in the root with zenpage. Works nicely. People who have captured the old URL will, of course, get a 404 error once the gallery has moved. You could modify the theme 404 handler to redirect those URLs to their new locations.
