I believe this is new to 1.2.4 - it seems that we are now forced to use a 'format' or html wrapper for all descriptions. This is causing current themes to not validate (not to mention the new need to strip html from descriptions for other uses) - block level elements inside spans, etc.

I've looked and looked and cannot find an override. Is it something I'm missing or is this indeed a new (in my case, unwanted) feature?
