When I try to run the Zenphoto setup I get this error:
Version 4.4.8 or greater is required. Use earlier versions at your own risk. Version 5.2 or greater is strongly recommended.

I don't know how to update this. I have been to http://www.php.net/ and downloaded an update there, no change. I downloaded an update from the Apple website and that didn't help either. What am I missing? I would love to try out zenphoto but can't even begin to start without the right php.

On a Mac the easiest is to use http://www.mamp.info. No need to install anything manually, I use that myself. This is of course only for local work. On a real web server you of course have to ask your provider.

I downloaded mamp but how do you use it to setup Zenphoto?
