Login option missing username?

After installing ZenPhoto 1.4.1.2 [7836] (great work), I enabled the user_login-out plugin.

Only the password text box was visible.

I can imagine that I'm not the only one, and after a bit of research, you need to go to the Options -> Gallery and enable the login field (I wonder why it's not enabled by default... what the use of the password only?)

Hope this will save somebody a headache

If you would like to help also try if this issue maybe has been resolved in the trunk and/or dev nightly builds. If it is wrong there as well please file a ticket on the bug tracker.

Seems to be resolved in the development nightly :-)
(Not yet in the trunk nightly)
  • This behavior is expected. You must remember that user names are not required for guest logins (to albums, etc.) so showing such a field can be quite confusing to them.

The admin login has and always will be primarily via the <site>/<root folder>/admin link (presuming mod-rewrite.) IF you want to allow a Zenphoto user to login from the front-end then you must enable this field. If there is a guest user name associated with a particular guest password then the field will be shown for THAT access even if the option is not set.

All that has happened on the DEV release is that we have enabled the field by default if the gallery requires a user name. No change to this [day one] behavior is planned for the current release.
  • I have the opposite problem: I'm trying to get the behavior the O.P. mentions. I'm running 1.4.1.3. In Options->Gallery->Gallery Behavior, I don't have the option "enable user name login field", even though "Details" are given for it on the right hand side. I have checked this with a single (Master) admin account, and when adding a guest account. I also can't add an account without a username (despite numerous indications that this is possible!).

The information in the user's overview (http://www.zenphoto.org/news/an-overview-of-zenphoto-users) could be out of date, since most of the options and user categories it mentions aren't in the places it quotes. E.g.:

Gallery guest user: This username/password is set on the Options-Gallery Configuration tab. When set, the entire gallery is protected and viewers must login to view anything.

    Thanks!

Just quickly: The "gallery guest user password" is the "gallery password". Click on the fold out and you see it (and it is on the option > gallery tab).
