Updated my server to Ubuntu 12.04 and getting message that ZenPhoto needs to have the setup scripts to run again when visiting site. I realize this requirement probably stems from the MySQL update, but I need to know what files I can copy from the tar ball back into zen photo directory that will let me get to setup again preferably without losing password protected albums/sub-albums and theme customization. Is it the same process as an upgrade as listed here: http://www.zenphoto.org/news/installation-and-upgrading under the Upgrade heading mid page? Also, is there way to make a DB backup without being able to get to the admin functions? Thanks.

You have to upload the zenphoto to your server. The setup file are inside.
You will not lose your password because there are in the db. It's the same for your custom theme. Zp will not erase your theme directory.
For the db backup you can use phpmyadmin.

Or Zenphoto's own database backup tool (its a plugin and adds a utility button to the admin overview.

Re-running setup does no harm, it's just a cautioness measure that will even be a little refine as regarding why on the coming 1.4.3 release.

Thanks for the help. I downloaded the latest version and moved the old zenphoto folder before untarring the new one to the zenphoto folder. Then I removed albums and linked to my photo drive as albums. In zenphoto I completed chmod to 755 and chown to apache web process owner and then ran setup. Setup did not have any issues once I gave it the database information. Only post install I needed to do was to move my zpmasonary theme over from the old folder. Lastly, I had to change the default cache time on the static html cache plugin to get the theme update to show on the main page. I did notice a bunch of album entries were fixed as a result of the update. These were like album so and so parent was #### and is now ####. Not sure where those came from, but timbrown.us is back in business. Now to post 800 pix from today's 5k.

Thanks again.

The "fixed" items are the linkage from subalbums to their parent. Basically what happens is if the folder structure does not match the database structure the latter gets fixed by setup. This is legacy from an old Zenphoto bug where the parentids were not set properly.

Thanks for the explanation on that. So what is the best or correct way to move a subalbum? I have some under an album called 'Friends' that I want to move into my 'Year ####' albums. Since it is my server here at home, mv is easy for me, but may cause linkage issues in the DB.

You should always use the album move/copy/rename feature to change an album around. If you move it via the file system or FTP Zenphoto will see it as a new album with the old one missing.
